his evocative 300mm tall mounted limited edition cold cast bronze figurine remembers the courage and sacrifice of all Australians who served in the Australian Imperial Force during the Great War 1914-1918.

For Australia, the First World War remains the costliest conflict in terms of casualties and lives lost. From a population of some 1.5 million men of fighting age in 1914, nearly 417,000 volunteered for service. More than 330,000 served overseas, firstly at Gallipoli and then in the deserts of the Sinai, Palestine and Syria, or in the blood-soaked trenches of the Western Front across France and Belgium. Some 62,000 were killed and more than 156,000 were wounded, gassed, or taken prisoner. Countless more returned home with the mental scars of all they had witnessed.
The unsung heroes of the Great War were the Stretcher Bearers who risked life and limb to carry wounded from the battlefields to lifesaving aid stations.The guns of the Western Front fell silent and the fighting ended on 11 November 1918. On 28 June 1919, the signing of the Treaty of Versailles marked the end on this "war to end all wars".
