Online stores and Customer Accounts - Why?

Hello everyone,
Our focus this time is online customer accounts.
Why is it that every time you want to buy something from an online store you have to set up an account, you name, email, password etc? Do you find this annoying? We certainly do and often stops us from shopping there. I just want to buy the item - not be bombarded by their advertising. And if I want to buy from them again in the future, I'll enter my details again.
Seems that more and more stores require you to signup to a store account before you can have the pleasure of spending your money with them.
That's why Gifts Actually does not have accounts. We don't need you to sign up to see what you bought last time - that is already recorded. All we ask is you contact details in the order so we can contact you if there are any issues and unless you sign up to our mailing list, we will leave you alone.
Gifts Actually understands that sometimes you just want to buy something - like walking into a store. You don't have to set up an account when you go in shop at K-mart do you.... You just want to browse and maybe take an item or several to the registers and pay for it.
We also understand that sometimes you want to keep updated on products and specials etc - so we have that set up separately and if you want to sign up, we give you a special code that gives you 10% off every time you purchase.
Bit we leave this choice up to you and we believe so should everyone else.
Take care and happy shopping.
Cheers
Andrea and Robert
